A drama based on a true story
Performed by The Riverview Payers
In 1981 the Lee jeans factory in Larkfield, Greenock employed 250 women.
The factory was owned by VF Corporation, an American company.
After 11 years in Greenock the corporation decided to move to Newtonards, Northern Ireland. This in spite of the factory always meeting its production targets and a continued increase in company profits.
Unable to reach a compromise despite offering various alternatives including a 4 day week, the decision was made by the workforce to occupy the factory and remain in place until either the decision was reversed or an alternative buyer was found.
The sit in lasted 7 months and the drama tells the story of the women who remained steadfast for the duration of the occupation of the plant.
